Castell-y-Rhingyll is a small village close to the the villages of Pen-y-Groes and Gorslas in Carmarthenshire, Wales. The village title, 'Castell-y-Rhingyll' (or Sergeants Castle) goes back to a time when a Motte and Bailey type dwelling was in place for the local Lord to house a Sergeant and four to six Soldiers for them to 'police' the local area. The Motte and Bailey was situated on land belonging to Castell-y-Rhingyll Farm (which still exists), on their lower fields. The site in question was subsequently taken over by British Coal for their Rock Castle East Opencast.
All traces of the Motte and Bailey were destroyed during the open cast works on site.
According to the government guidelines, this hall will be open to the public from May 17. Please click on the “Events” button at the left to check for vacancies. Thank you.
